Home explodes in Illinois, at least 10 other buildings damaged
WOODSTOCK, Ill. (CBS 58) -- Authorities say multiple people have been displaced following a home explosion in Woodstock, Illinois.
First responders arrived at the area near N. Tryon Street and Lincoln Street around 12:35 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9, after a contract crew struck a two-inch gas main inside a sewer line. A church was evacuated as a precaution, and homeowners were asked to shelter in place.
The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District says at 2:38 p.m., while firefighters were still on the scene of the gas leak, a two-story home in the 200 block of Lincoln Avenue exploded.
The explosion "instantly leveled the home" and started a fire in several adjacent structures.
Officials say a total of 20 fire agencies responded to the scene.
No major injuries were reported, and all occupants from the homes are accounted for and being assisted by the American Red Cross.
The fire district says two firefighters were transported to area hospitals for minor injuries.
At least 10 structures were said to be damaged in the blast, including a church and school.
The cause of the explosion remains under investigation.
