DODGE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office arrested Hustisford Clerk and Treasurer Kim Hopfinger on Monday, Sept. 29 after an investigation into theft and embezzlement of village funds.

Sheriff’s officials said in a Tuesday, Sept. 30 press release that Hustisford leaders requested an investigation earlier in the month after an audit revealed financial discrepancies. Documents given to investigators reportedly indicated theft of village funds, as well as embezzlement tied to the Hustisford Soccer Club, where Hopfinger served as treasurer.

Investigators determined that large amounts of money were stolen. Hopfinger was booked into the Dodge County Jail on charges of misconduct in public office and theft by virtue of employment greater than $10,000 but less than $100,000.

Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt credited village officials for quickly reporting the matter and taking steps toward stronger financial oversight.
