'I never thought I would be here today:' Marathon runner inspires those battling cancer
MILWAUKEE (CBS58) -- The 42nd Annual Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon kicked off with a bang on Sunday, Oct. 6.
Runners from 46 states and 13 countries participated.
As cheers filled the Summerfest Grounds, hundreds of runners made their final strides to the finish line.
But for Bryan Komas, the Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon is more than another medal.
"I'm a cancer survivor and I battled stage three rectal cancer, stage one bladder cancer, and a brain tumor back in September of 21," said Komas.
After what Bryan went through, he is now on a mission, to spread awareness.
"I was given this amazing gift through the random act of kindness through 'This Time Tomorrow,' so my why is running for those that can't," said Komas.
Bryan says he wants those battling cancer to know they're not alone.
"So many people are battling this ugly disease of cancer and it's awesome I will be continuing to run and push it and get up to that 100 miler someday," said Komas.
You can nominate someone you love battling cancer through the This Time Tomorrow organization to show them your support.
"I never thought I would be here today, so when this organization came around in my deepest time to bring that hope and inspiration and just to show me there's more purpose to my life, it is absolutely amazing. Always be kind to others and pay it forward. There's always someone struggling more than you know and just be kind and share that love with others," said Komas.
