'I’ve been waiting for this for too long!': Inside AmFam, emotional fans celebrate Brewers' pennant clinch
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- As streamers rained down from the roof of American Family Field, so, too, did tears stream down the faces of many fans who waited a lifetime to see their Brewers return to the World Series.
In the moments after the final out was recorded, our crews spoke with fans about their emotion and gratitude.
Carly was in tears as she told us, "I just love the Brewers so much. And seeing such a small team be able to work so hard and earn this just means so much. Especially against the Dodgers. It just means so much to me."
She said she came to the game with her sister and boyfriend. "It just means so much to have people that share this passion with me."
When we asked if she's thought ahead to the World Series, she told us, "No, I did not. But I cannot believe it and I will be there for Game 1. I have tickets!"
A fan named Cindy was wiping tears from her eyes.
She told us, "I can’t tell you how many days I skipped school in 1982 to be here, in the dollar bleachers at County Stadium. And it’s just amazing. It’s amazing."
She said, "My dad started as a Braves fan because of the Milwaukee Braves and then when it turned to the Brewers I was just brought up and raised a Wisconsin girl and a Brewers fan. I cannot believe it. I knew it, I knew [they would win]. But I cannot believe it."
Nicole was hugging her son when we asked her how she was feeling. She said, "I don’t know yet. It’s my dad‘s birthday today, we’re here to celebrate. I’ve been waiting for this for too long. I’m here with my entire family. This is the best."
Nicole said, "These guys are amazing. They’re the heart of the city right now. They’re not getting the credit they deserve. I’m just speechless."
Nicole's father, Ron, told us, "I was at the World Series in '82 and it was heartbreaking. I just couldn’t believe it. This is just unbelievable for me. I was crying before."
Eric was fired up when he told us the series win "Represents Wisconsin. It’s just a huge moment. First the time in 44 years we’ve been to a World Series. It’s crazy."
And Angie told us, "We haven’t been in the World Series since 1982. I was three years old, my brother was 10. And he remembers it and I don’t. And my niece is a huge Brewer fan. She woke up at 8:00 this morning and got us these tickets."
She said she couldn't even watch the end of the game because she was too nervous. "I was in the bathroom. Walking away. Walking laps in the bathroom the last two innings. I can’t watch the last two innings of any game."
