IndyCar drivers use Milwaukee Mile test to prepare for doubleheader
CBS 58 WEST ALLIS, Wis. (CBS 58) - Rain cut Wednesday morning's IndyCar testing session short at the Milwaukee Mile, but drivers say every lap is critical ahead of this year's doubleheader weekend.
Felix Rosenqvist, who struggled at the Milwaukee Mile last season, said the test provides a valuable opportunity to improve before returning for two races instead of one.
"When they said this was going to be a doubleheader, I'm like 'oof,'" Rosenqvist said. "At least we got to test here, which is great. ... I think we had the lowest-hanging fruit to find here, and it seems like we found a chunk already."
Fellow IndyCar driver Josef Newgarden said the Milwaukee test is one every team prioritizes because of how much is at stake.
"I think that's why you see everybody testing here," Newgarden said. "You only have so many tests in season that you can do. I think everybody circles this because you have to. This is a huge week. If you don't have a good car throughout this weekend, you're going to lose a lot of points."
The IndyCar Snap-on Milwaukee Mile 250 weekend is scheduled for Aug. 29-30, with races taking place on both Saturday and Sunday.
