Infant, 5 others hurt after semi truck crash in Washington County

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) — A man is dead, and six others, including an infant, are injured after two crashes in Washington County Monday morning, Aug. 17.

The scary incidents closed a stretch of I-41 south between County Road K and WIS-145 for more than six hours.

The first crash happened in Richfield on 41 southbound at Holy Hill. The Washington County Sheriff's Office (WCSO) said a man driving a motorcycle was merging onto 41 from 45, when he lost control and crashed.

An off-duty EMT with the Jackson Fire Department was on scene and stopped to render aid. Flight for Life was called, but the 57-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

As crews were still responding to the motorcycle crash, a second crash happened just before 7 a.m. on I-41 south at Scenic Road, just a few miles from the first scene.

WCSO said a semi-truck struck several cars that were slowed in traffic, resulting in one car becoming vertically pinned between two semis.

A witness shared photos of the crash with CBS 58. 

According to the Slinger Fire Department, three people were trapped inside that car.

The Milwaukee Fire Department's Heavy Urban Rescue Team responded to help with extrication.

An infant was rescued and taken by Flight for Life to Children's Wisconsin.

Four adults were taken by ambulance to area hospitals, and a fifth adult self-transported to a hospital.

Authorities said all six individuals rescued from the second crash have potentially serious injuries.

Both crashes are under investigation by the Washington County Sheriff's Office.
