MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- As the Milwaukee Brewers prepare for the playoffs, we continue to learn more information about an escalator malfunction at American Family Field that happened back in June.
Through an open records request obtained by CBS 58, our team accessed an initial incident report from the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS) explaining what happened on June 29 after the Brewers played the Cubs.
According to the document, DSPS determined the shutdown was due to the Lower Upthrust safety device being activated inadvertently by a rider near the bottom of the escalator. The document explained how heavy load conditions from fans also led to a simultaneous overspeed fault and controller shut down.
The final report stated that the department issued an order to check escalators of the same model throughout the state to make sure they are safe. The current escalator permits to operate at American Family Field are valid until Nov. 21.
