Investigation underway after malnourished dog found in Racine

RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Police came upon a shocking discovery in Racine over the weekend.

According to a Facebook post, just before midnight on Saturday, March 2, a sergeant with the Caledonia Police Department found a malnourished dog near Northwestern Avenue and Rapids Drive in the city of Racine.

The sergeant picked up the dog and took him to the Wisconsin Humane Society Racine Campus for care.

Police speculate the dog is some sort of lab mix but are not sure.

Racine police is leading the investigation, including any animal cruelty allegations.

"We don't know if this boy was a stray that wasn't eating or a pet that was abandoned after being not properly cared for," the Facebook post said.
