‘It means everything’: Brewers fans rush to grab World Series merchandise
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — Brewers fans are wasting no time celebrating the team's trip to the World Series, lining up at the team store inside American Family Field to get their hands on exclusive World Series merchandise.
T-shirts, caps, pennants and other Brewers gear were flying off the shelves as fans looked for ways to commemorate the team's historic run.
“Go Brewers!” Brewers fan Sheryl Zakszewski said as she celebrated the team's success.
After sweeping the Dodgers in four games, the Brewers are headed to the World Series, giving fans plenty of reasons to celebrate.
“I’ve been crying since last night. It means everything. This is a special team, and they deserve everything that is happening, and they’re going to do it for Ueck,” Zakszewski said.
Fans are already finding ways to mark the moment, including Amanda Walters, who picked up a special piece of Brewers memorabilia.
“I got the World Series hat filled with balls,” Walters said.
For Brewers fan Lori Gilanyi, the merchandise is about preserving a memory that fans never know how many chances they will get to experience.
“I really wanted to have something we can remember this by because you never know how many chances we get to keep coming back,” Gilanyi said.
For Zakszewski, the Brewers' World Series run also brings back memories of watching the team as a child.
“I was 7 years old in 1982 when the Brewers went the first time, and I watched it with my parents. Now, I get to watch it with my kids 44 years later,” Zakszewski said.
The excitement is translating into long lines at the team store, with some fans waiting for additional merchandise to arrive.
“Probably like half an hour. Worth the wait, though. We’re in no rush,” Walters said.
Zakszewski said she left school right away to join the celebration and plans to return if the Brewers win it all.
“I left school right away and came here, and I wanted to be a part of this, and I’m going to come back when they win the World Series and get the World Series merchandise,” Zakszewski said.
The Brewers Team Stores are located at the left-field gate and home plate gate entrances at American Family Field.
Following the NLCS clincher, store hours have been expanded to 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
