JD Vance urges people to vote against 'crazy' Democrats in 2026 midterms during visit to Plover
PLOVER, Wis. (CBS 58) – Vice President JD Vance made a stop to a machining factory in Plover, Wisconsin on Thursday, Feb 26.
The stop came less than 48 hours after President Trump’s State of the Union address, however, Vance had his focus on the midterm election.
“We would really appreciate you not sending a bunch of crazy Democrats in November,” Vance said to conclude his remarks on Thursday.
The visit to Wisconsin’s Third Congressional District is purposeful. With rural and suburban areas balanced by the more urban centers of La Crosse and Eau Claire, the district has proven to be purple.
In 2024, Rep. Derrick Van Orden defeated Rebecca Cooke in a race that came down to just over 11,000 votes.
In Plover, Vance touted the successes of the Trump administration’s economy and border security, blaming Democrats for higher prices.
“No taxes on tips? That happened because of Derrick. No taxes on overtime? That happened because of Derrick. If you are a citizen in this district, and you see a big tax refund check come next month or the month after that, it was Derrick Van Orden who made it happen and congressional Democrats who tried to stop it,” Vance said.
On a virtual press call, Senator Tammy Baldwin criticized Van Orden and Vance, saying recent efforts from Republicans are hurting Wisconsin families.
“Western Wisconsin deserves an independent voice in the Congress, someone who will stand up and fight for them,” Baldwin said. “Those policies have decimated families and farmers alike.”
The Democratic Congressional Campaign has prioritized Wisconsin’s Third Congressional District as a key location that could help flip the majority in the U.S House of Representatives next year.
