Jordan Love injures thumb, expected to be out a week

GREEN BAY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- It is always a risk for starters to play in the NFL preseason and the Green Bay Packers are seeing what those risks can lead to. Packers quarterback Jordan Love is going to be out for the next week after having a procedure on his thumb.

The Packers do not think this will impact week one.

Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst told reporters its a ligament injury that happened on the last play of his action against the New York Jets on Saturday when he was sacked.

Love practiced on Monday and was pretty effective but Gutekunst said for Love to be at his best they thought it was best to get the procedure done.

The Packers will head to Indianapolisfor a joint practice Thursday before Saturday's preseason game. It's a similar schedule next week in Green Bay with the Seattle Seahawks but Love's availability will be day to day.

"We'll see, obviously he'll be out this week and I would put it highly unlikely that he plays versus Seattle. As far as the practice is concerned I can't tell you that at this moment," Coach Lafleur said.

"I don't like any of our guys to miss time," Gutekunst said. "I think it's important for all our guys to be out there. it certainly affects performance when you're not out there. At the same time I think we'll get him back in plenty of time and I don't see this affecting him long-term at all."
