Jury selection begins for Milwaukee man charged with sexually assaulting, trafficking young girls as young as 5
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Jury selection got underway Monday, April 27 for the trial of a Milwaukee man charged with sex crimes against young children for several years.
Sixty-five-year-old David Boyd faces five felonies:
- Repeated sexual assault of same child (two counts)
- Child abuse, use of a dangerous weapon
- Trafficking of a child
- False imprisonment
Most of the details in the 16-page criminal complaint are hard to read. Prosecutors say one of the girls was 8 when the assaults began, another was just 5.
The two girls were staying with their biological mother's friend when the abuse happened; Boyd is that woman's boyfriend.
The abuse happened in two locations, one in Brown Deer and then at a Milwaukee home.
In a forensic interview, one of the girls said Boyd would get in the shower with her and force oral sex, then intercourse.
Throughout the years of abuse, Boyd held her at knifepoint, cut her arms, legs and private areas, leaving scars.
Court documents show photos and a map drawn by one of the girls where he allegedly locked her in his basement, hands chained to a pipe, with just a piece of bread to eat and standing water to drink.
The five felony counts Boyd is facing carry a combined total of 172 years in prison, though more time can be added because of the ages of the victims.
One potential juror said her daughter had been sexually assaulted and didn't think she'd remain impartial.
It's typical in the process for lawyers to want to know things about potential jurors. This case will have details that will be difficult for many people, including the jurors, to hear.
