Kenosha man charged in hours-long standoff incident in Racine
RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A 27-year-old Kenosha man has been charged in connection with an hours-long standoff incident that happened in Racine.
Police were called to the area of Spring and State Streets on Sept. 27, after receiving a 911 call reporting Trevor Ottum broke into a person's home through a window while they was at work. The caller advised authorities they saw Ottum on her surveillance camera.
According to a criminal complaint, officers arrived at the scene and learned Ottum had barricaded himself inside the house with a large piece of furniture in front of the door.
The complaint says Ottum refused to come out of the home despite officers' loud commands.
At one point, the complaint says Ottum fired gunshots out the back of the home. Officials say Ottum made statements he was going to blow up the house. After that threat, the neighboring houses were evacuated.
Authorities say Ottum was barricaded in the house for approximately seven hours.
Ottum came out of the house without incident and was arrested.
Officials found a handgun, handgun magazine, several spent handgun casings, and projectiles.
Ottum was charged with the following:
- First degree recklessly endangering safety, repeater, use of a dangerous weapon
- Possession of a firearm by a felon, repeater
- Terrorist threats, repeater
- Obstructing an officer, repeater
- Criminal damage to property, repeater
- Disorder conduct, repeater
- Misdemeanor bail jumping, repeater (12 counts)
