'The taste of Milwaukee:' Kopp's Frozen Custard ranked #11 on Yelp's list of top burger joints in the US
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Sink your teeth into this news -- Yelp has ranked a Wisconsin burger joint in their top 20 list.
On National Cheeseburger Day, our very own Kopp's Frozen Custard made Yelp Elite's list of the "20 best places to grab a cheeseburger."
Coming in at number 11, Kopp's is the only Wisconsin restaurant to make the list.
According to Yelp, the list was determined by a number of factors including the total volume and ratings of reviews.
So, CBS 58 decided to head over to their Greenfield location and find out -- what exactly is the special sauce that has kept the fan favorite in business since 1950?
“Great food, great frozen custard, great burgers," said Manager Jeff Feist. “They’re always hot, they’re always fresh, we use great ingredients.”
Feist said while it's a "simple recipe" they have perfected the ratio of meat to bun to topping.
"That's what makes the magic," Feist said. “You put that order in, and you know that it’s being made for you and made the way you want it."
Mark Merg, a first timer at the eatery, went for the works -- mayo, ketchup, onions, pickles, cheese, and tomatoes.
"It's a 10 out of 10," Merg said. "It's fantastic."
Samuel Anthony, who had recently flown in from Charlotte, opted for mayo, onions, and pickles.
"It's nice and big and juicy," Anthony said.
But for Noel Luna, who said he's been a customer for decades, it's the quality that keeps him coming back.
“The burgers are always large, charbroiled so it’s got that Kopp’s taste," Luna said. “This is the taste of Milwaukee.”
And to everyone who has stepped through the doors, Feist added he and his team are forever grateful for the love.
“We really appreciate everybody that supported us," Feist said. "It’s fun watching the line out the door on some of those summer nights and people that are willing to wait and wait and wait, but we feel that it’s worth the wait.”
