WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A 26-foot-tall, 70-foot-long stainless-steel dragon named Goldspar is nearing completion at a warehouse in Nevada before being shipped to Wisconsin Dells for the opening of the new Dellshire Resort.

The metal sculptor behind it, Kevin Stone, says it is the largest in the world, standing 26 feet tall and weighing roughly 17,000 pounds.

It was fabricated entirely by hand from thousands of individual steel pieces over 19 months. It will greet visitors at the entrance of the medieval-themed resort, which is set to open in late spring, according to the resort.

"Goldspar is probably about a week away from completion, and that's the time I get nervous because, you know, we have to take him apart. We have to try to fit cranes or a small crane in here at least to get the wings off," said Stone.

Dellshire Resort will feature 208 guest rooms and suites, five dining outlets, several pools including a swim-up indoor/outdoor pool and a 9,000-square-foot family entertainment center.
