MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A food distribution took place Wednesday, Dec. 28, for those in need of a meal during the last few days of 2022.

“Right now, it’s a period of time where kids are out, young people are out, between Christmas and New Year. So, we thought we’ll provide them with a little food just to help them out, get them through this week," Milwaukee 15th District Alderman Russell Stamper said.

Stamper partnered with Ald. Chambers and Rainey, along with Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin, Phoenix Investors, and the Crivello Family Foundation for a drive-thru food distribution.

Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin provided 192 boxes of food and bags of fresh produce, totaling over 40 pounds each.

Dozens of volunteers worked to distribute the food to people, no questions asked.

"You don't know what people need until you know what people need. So, an opportunity like this, to be able to bring joy to families, especially when it's about putting food on the table, is really important," volunteer Bridgette Whitaker said.

Some Milwaukee firefighters also helped with the distribution.

"You know, we always support people on their worst days. But this is actually a positive, where we can give back and see smiling faces," Milwaukee Professional Firefighters Local 215 President Eric Dawn said.

For one man, being able to drive up, get some free food, and see the smiling faces of the volunteers was amazing.

"To help out, to give a hand, that's a kind, human, good gesture to do. That's the way I feel about it," Frank Locust said. "Really grateful for this day and everything, [for] Feeding America."
