MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The REALTORS Home and Garden Show, the longest-running home and garden show, started Friday at Wisconsin State Fair Park.

The theme of the show will be "Discover Treasured Spaces," and it is set to feature 350 booths specializing in landscaping, remodeling, real estate, gardening, cabinets and flooring, plumbing, heating and cooling, interior decorating, and more.

"Especially during the pandemic, people were looking at, 'okay, we're going to stay in our house a while, how do we make it more livable, more enjoyable,'" Greater Milwaukee Association of Realtors President Mike Ruzicka said.

The show features 8,000-square feet of landscaping displays.

"You can really see it up close. You can hear it. It's alive," Aquatica Owner Dean Pipito said about his water display.

The displays give homeowners a chance to visualize their work in their homes.

"This shows our work a lot better than any 2D drawing that we can present to a customer," Extreme Exteriors Owner Jamon Peterson said.

Peterson tells CBS 58 that backyard remodeling is popular right now.

"'Staycation' is a popular term, and just creating outdoor rooms and extensions of their house," he said.

Even if you are not a homeowner yet, there is still an incentive to stop by.

"People that are interested in getting into the market, it would be a good idea to come in, talk to a realtor, figure out their price point and what they are capable of purchasing, talk to a lender about getting preapproved and once you get into the market you can act fast," Ruzicka said.

Admission to the event is $10 for adults and $6 for seniors 65 or older at the on-site box office only. Children aged 12 years old and under can enter for free, and active or retired military and emergency service personnel at the on-site box office only with a valid ID or employee badge.

The show runs until April 2, though it will not be open from March 27-28. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit www.mkehgs.com.
