MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission (MADACC) has announced a new program that hopes to put their dogs in new homes.
The "Sign and Foster Test Drive Program" allows Milwaukee County residents to take dogs for a "test drive" of sorts.
They are able to take a dog home for five days, to make sure there is a connection before signing the official adoption papers. MADACC is insistent that this is important for the dogs just as much as it is for their potential new family.
"We know that getting married on the first day is a little rough, so it's a big decision to adopt a dog and it's a big commitment, so we wanna make sure that it is the right fit, we also wanna make sure that it's the right fit forever, not just temporarily," said Kate Hartlund, Community Engagement Coordinator with MADACC.
MADACC started this program with cats, and due to its success, kickstarted this new program for dogs.
They are also offering a 50% reduction in the adoption fee for people who use the test drive program.
