Man attends every Summerfest since 1968 and starts 6:30 Club
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- This year marks the 57th year of Summerfest, which hundreds of thousands of people attend every year. However, one group in particular takes their commitment to the festival to a whole new level.
The group is called the “6:30 Club”. For several decades now, on every single day of Summerfest you can find them meeting up at the same bar right by the Generac stage.
Dozens of people in the group gather and enjoy some drinks and food before they set off and hit each stage.
This tradition has been ongoing since 1991.
They say all that's required to be in the group is dedication and a fun colorful shirt.
With many people in the group having been a part of the club since the 90s, they say it has become like a second family.
“The music is incredible, people watching is incredible, but being with friends and family,” said Brian Maney who started the 6:30 Club. “Some people you only see during Summerfest, you know. So, the cousins and the nieces and nephews and stuff will come here and talk to uncle Bry and yeah, it’s great seeing them.”
Among those in the club is a couple known by many as Mr. and Mrs. Summerfest.
The couple says in the past 48 years they have only missed two days of the big gig, because it’s an event like no other.
“The music, the friendship, the atmosphere,” said Chuck and Cindy Meyer. “We have this. I mean we have this, I mean who else has this? No one. No one. There is no one anywhere that has a beautiful lakefront and this.”
