Man fatally shot by Milwaukee police in shootout near 37th and Wright identified
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A 23-year-old man is dead, and a Milwaukee Police Department (MPD) officer was injured after gunfire was exchanged during a police chase on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
A source tells us the officer involved -- a 35-year-old man with more than three years of experience -- was shot in the leg. Police say the officer was treated and released from the hospital.
Officials say it all started just before 6 p.m. when officers spotted a car wanted in connection with a shots fired case in Glendale.

Police say the driver stopped near 37th and Wright. The driver and a second person got out and ran. An officer chased one suspect a few blocks away, where gunfire was exchanged.
The 23-year-old man died at the scene. The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office identified the man as Printis Smith of Milwaukee.
Police say they found a gun in Smith's hand, another in his waistband, and a third inside the vehicle.
One suspect remains on the run.
