BURLINGTON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A shelter-in-place order in Burlington was lifted Saturday, Aug. 29 after a standoff at a home near Lewis and Herman ended with a 43-year-old man found dead inside, according to police.

Police say the situations started with a report of an assault in progress. A woman was able to leave the home before officers arrived and was taken to Aurora Medical Center in Burlington for treatment of her injuries

The man barricaded himself inside and told the woman he intended to harm himself, and that he had access to firearms, police say.

Crisis negotiators tried to communicate with the man before those efforts were exhausted, according to police. The Racine County SWAT team then moved in to clear the home, where the man was found dead.

Police say there is no threat to the surrounding area.
