Man sentenced to 10 years for death of child struck by bullet while sleeping

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee man charged in the death of 10-year-old Isdennyeliaz Ortiz was sentenced Thursday, July 31. 

Javier Rodriguez was sentenced to 10 years in prison and eight years of extended supervision after pleading guilty to a charge of second-degree reckless homicide in June.

Ortiz was killed in May of 2024, while sleeping in bed with her mom and baby brother at a home near 21st and Orchard. 

According to a criminal complaint, a bullet came through the ceiling, hitting her in the chest. She died at the scene. 

Officers found the bullet went through a couch cushion and the floor of the upper unit, where Rodriguez lived.
