Man sentenced to 5 years in stolen vehicle pursuit that ended in north side car lot crash

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- An 18-year-old Milwaukee man was sentenced Tuesday after police say he stole a car and crashed into a car lot near 76th and Villard.

It happened during a police chase back in February of 2022.

Ryan Tate pleaded guilty to charges of armed robbery, first-degree recklessly endangering safety, second-degree recklessly endangering safety, fleeing/eluding officers, fleeing/eluding officers causing bodily harm or property damage, and possession of a dangerous weapon under the age of 18.

He was sentenced to five years in prison followed by six years extended supervision.

A criminal complaint says Tate stole the car from a Lyft driver before leading police on a high-speed chase that at times reached speeds of up to 90 miles per hour.

The stolen vehicle flipped and went airborne, crashing into several parked cars at Hart Auto lot.

Tate, who was 17 years old at the time of the incident, was taken to an area hospital for treatment along with two of his passengers and two drivers in other vehicles.

A restitution hearing is set for April 24.
