MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Adopt-A-Neighborhood Initiative just launched in Milwaukee.
Mayor Cavalier Johnson announced the news Tuesday, May 28. It's a 12-week initiative that's targeting the Silver City neighborhood on Milwaukee's south side.
Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson says he hopes for the next several weeks, the program achieves three main goals: beautification, public safety and community engagement.
The mayor says his office will try to accomplish this through neighborhood cleanups, canvassing and making sure residents benefit from resources the city offers.
"A key aspect of the initiative is allocating existing resources that are presently allocated in the city right now, to support and enhance neighborhoods through improving infrastructure, maintaining public spaces and supporting community activities," Mayor Johnson said.
This is a pilot program. If it is successful, it could be replicated in other neighborhoods around the city.
