MCTS announces annual Rosa Parks tribute and scholarship opportunity

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee County Transit System will honor civil rights icon Rosa Parks by reserving a seat on every bus in its fleet from Sunday, Dec. 1 through Tuesday, Dec. 3.

Each reserved seat will feature a red rose and a commemorative placard highlighting Parks’ role in the civil rights movement.

The tribute coincides with the Rosa Parks Tribute Scholarship, open to Milwaukee County high school seniors planning to attend trade schools, colleges or universities. Applicants must submit an essay inspired by Parks’ words, "Each person must live their life as a model for others."

The application deadline is Monday, Jan. 6, 2025 at 8 a.m. Three winners will each receive $1,000 scholarships, with recipients announced in February on Parks' birthday, which is also Transit Equity Day.
