63-year-old woman killed in crash near 68th and Hampton identified by ME's office

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — Milwaukee police say one person died in a crash near 68th and Hampton Wednesday night, Sept. 16.
Police were called to the scene around 7:35 p.m.
Authorities say a 34-year-old driver heading west on Hampton hit another car with two people inside.
The passenger of that car, a 63-year-old, died at the scene. She was identified by the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office Thursday as Sheila Washington.
The 70-year-old driver of the car that was hit was taken to a hospital and is expected to be okay.
The 34-year-old driver of the striking vehicle was taken into custody before being transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Milwaukee police are still investigating the cause of the crash, but residents in the area said speeding and reckless driving is a common sight.
"The way these drivers drive up and down Fond du Lac, we see it all the time, and the crash last night, it was serious," said Al Thompson. "This is not going to stop happening."
Wendel Bates, who lives near the scene, agreed, saying the entire situation is "really sad."
"It really needs some help in this area right here. It's a good neighborhood, but that out into Hampton, it's really bad," Bates said. "I don't drive that much no more because of situations around here that are really bad, but I try not to drive."
Charges are pending review by the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office.
