MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) Police Department has a new member of the force, and he's all about comforting anyone suffering from depression or stress.

Meet Ezmae, UWM's first K-9 officer -- a 1-year-old female golden retriever.

K-9 Ezmae, according to UWM, is a certified facility-trained dog, a type of service dog specializing in educational environment. Ezmae's training allows her to assist students, staff and anyone suffering from depression, being a crime victim or dealing with any type of stressful event.

Ezmae was sworn in at a ceremony with her handler, Officer Mindy Wucherer, earlier this month.

“During the past few years, I noticed police agencies started specifically incorporating comfort dogs in their departments,” Wucherer said. “I began researching the benefits of these types of K-9s and found nothing but positive feedback from departments that implemented them. I am grateful UWMPD and the university agreed that a facility/comfort K-9 would be a great addition to our campus.”

K-9 Ezmae was reportedly donated by Partners with Paws, and also donated the training needed for her certification.

K-9 Ezmae will get to work attending various campus events, gladly welcoming cuddles and belly rubs.

Welcome, Ezmae!
