Mets fans believe 'playoff pumpkin' from local farm helped beat Brewers

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A local farm may have accidentally played a small part in helping the Mets beat the Brewer's on Thursday night's heartbreaker Wildcard loss.

Mets star Pete Alonso smashed the three-run homer in the 9th inning to help send the New York Mets to the NLDS.

But just last week, the Mets were in town to finish the regular season at American Family Field.

That's when Alonso and his wife stopped at Basse's Taste of Country in Colgate.

Alonso picked up what he calls a "playoff pumpkin," a good luck charm fans are rallying around this post season.

"My wife and I went to Bell's Farms it's about 25 minutes outside, they have a great little set up, it's nice. I picked it myself, yes," said Alonso after the win.

The owner of Basse's says he is not surprised the pumpkin brought the Mets such good fortune.

"I'm the farmer and yes, I believe our pumpkins are special and magical because I'm the grower and all that stuff and they do have special powers because one of our sayings is that we grow memories," said Rodger Basse, owner of Basse's Taste of Country.

Basse told us he is a Brewers fan, but that it's pretty cool Alanso visited, even if he got the name wrong. He said he wishes some of his pumpkin magic would have worn off on the brew crew.
