Mexican Fiesta kicks off in Milwaukee bringing cultural cuisines, music and more
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The city of festivals his hosting one of their most popular cultural events -- the 52nd annual Mexican Fiesta. Doors opened Friday, Aug. 22 with the event running through Sunday.
Though it's called Mexican Fiesta, you'll find amazing food and music from all over Latin America. You can't miss the vendors throughout the grounds; there are a handful of locations where over 150 businesses brought in artisanal products straight from different states in Mexico.
"Mexican Fiesta is a return home, and so this year is not going to be any different. There's, of course, always news or prices but at the end of the day, you will feel like you're stepping into your home and coming back to everything that you know about what home is," said Tamara Olivas, Mexican Fiesta public relations.
"I come here every year with my family, here all weekend," said Christina Villa, who lives in Milwaukee and has been attending Mexican Fiesta since she was a kid. "This is for me no joke the best festival of the summer. I know we have so many great festivals, but this is by far by far the best - the food, the music."
It's also worth noting the festival raises funds to offer scholarships for local students, giving nearly $2 million since it started.
There are also tons of activities to participate in, like soccer and volleyball tournaments, a 5K, Lucha Libre, and a car show.
The opening ceremony starts at 5 p.m. Friday, and a day of the dead parade starts at 8 p.m.
