Milwaukee alderman asks health department to shut off utilities of businesses that violate Stay at Home Order

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A north side Milwaukee alderman says businesses that knowingly violate the governor's Stay at Home Order should have their utilities shut off.

District seven Alderman Khalif Rainey asked the Milwaukee Health Department to carry out the order, similar to what's being done in Los Angeles.

Businesses would first get a warning, and if it continues to operate, water and electric services would be shut off.

He says it's a last resort for business owners prioritizing profits over public health.

Alderman Rainey said in a statement, "As a city, we need to do everything we can, and use every tool at our disposal to stop the spread of the virus."
