Milwaukee Alderman Peter Burgelis enters U.S. House race, looks to unseat GOP Rep. Bryan Steil

CBS 58

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee Alderman Peter Burgelis has announced he is running for Congress in Wisconsin's 1st District.

Burgelis launched his bid Sunday, sending out this automated message:

"I’ve spent years listening to people here, and what I hear is the same everywhere – groceries, utilities, mortgages, and insurance just keep getting more expensive. And people know why. Trump’s tariffs are raising costs, and Bryan Steil has voted with him nearly every time, while avoiding his own constituents. I’m running to actually show up, listen, and fight for you."

Burgelis, who serves the 11th district in Milwaukee, will look to unseat GOP Rep. Bryan Steil.

He has been in his role in the 11th district since winning the election back in April 2024.

In response, Steil issued a statement, saying in part "Milwaukee Politician Peter Burgelis, who voted to nearly double the sales tax on working families, has no business running in a seat he doesn't live in."
