MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) - Volunteers at the Lamb of God Missionary Baptist Church gave out resources to flooding victims on Saturday afternoon, Aug. 23.

“We like to say we’re blessed to be a blessing and that means that you have to be compassionate in these moments,” lead pastor Christopher R. Boston said.

The church gave away food, water, clothes, diapers and much more to those who stopped by.

“So many different things that we hope to bring a little help and hope to the community,” Boston said.

One family stopped by but says they plan on giving away what they got to people they know that need it more.

“Pass it on to someone who could really use it a lot more than us,” Milwaukee resident Choc Moore said. “People that we know who were affected that’s right there in our community.

About five minutes down the road from the Church in NW Milwaukee, Bob Keefe is feeling the impact of the floods.

The foundation in the back of Keefe’s house caved into the basement, leaving his house unlivable.

“There’s no basement, there’s no wall,” Keefe said. “There was a washer, dryer, cabinets and so on along the back wall and that was all I suppose crushed by the brick.”

Keefe says he’s been told not to go inside his home because it could be unsafe.

“The house is what my worry is, and how much it will cost me to live here, it may be unaffordable,” Keefe said.

Keefe says he’s only getting around 11,500 from insurance, which is not enough.

“We’re hoping somebody is available to come and give him answers of stability and soundness before all the volunteers leave town,” Keefe’s daughter Kelly said.

Keefe has a GoFundMe here, and other neighbors are seeking help as well here.
