MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee leaders are doing their part in maintaining safe drinking water for the city's residents.
Milwaukee Water Works has begun their lead service line replacement program, connecting homes to the water main and reducing potential lead exposure.
In a presser Wednesday morning, April 22, Mayor Cavalier Johnson, alongside other city leaders, laid out a vision for the coming months.
"I'm reinforcing a very simple fact," Mayor Johnson said. "That everything begins at home. We've got an important role in protecting the quality and the livability of housing here in this city. For a strong and safe city, we're starting -- we're working to make sure that each home has a safe, clean way to get drinking water. That's what these projects are all about."
Milwaukee Water Works has a goal of replacing 5,000 service lines throughout the city this year.
