MILWAUKEE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A controversial mural in Milwaukee's Riverwest neighborhood displays a swastika inside the Star of David. The building owner who had the mural put up, calls the artwork imagery that reflects the genocide against Palestinian people.
The mural was vandalized last week. As of yesterday, black paint was covering the swastika. However, today, the vandalism has been cleaned.
Atta is happy others are showing support for the message. Milwaukee's Common Council has asked Atta to change or remove the mural. 14 of the 15 members released a statement Saturday that said, in part:
"It has long been a symbol of intolerance and hatred, designed to psychologically injure and oppress those who are different. To see it displayed on the streets of our city is sad, distressing, and disheartening."
Alderman Lamont Westmoreland sent out a statement asking that the mural be changed.
CBS 58 spoke to Atta over the phone Saturday, Sept. 14. He says he has no intentions of taking it down.
