MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Tuesday afternoon, many gathered at City Hall for a Black History Month celebration concluding Milwaukee's 28 Days of Black History effort.
The ninth annual program included music, dance, and the recognition of several local icons and their contributions to the community.
Several city leaders were present to share their thoughts on how Black history transcends just the month of February.
"Black history is American history, it is not confined to a single month but is woven into the very fabric of this nation."
The city of Milwaukee currently has eight African American alders, the largest number in the city's history.
