MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Over the next few weeks, you may notice some changes on the streets when you drive through Milwaukee suburbs. Those communities are working together to make their streets safer.

"Reckless driving is a regional problem and it requires a regional response," said Wauwatosa Mayor Dennis McBride.

The mayor joined leaders from West Allis, Greendale, Shorewood and South Milwaukee Monday to announce the changes.

New traffic calming measures will be in place, from new signs to speed trailers, to traffic barrels -- even camera systems.

County Executive David Crowley describes this as a fact-finding effort.

"And these won't be permanent, but this is an opportunity for us to be able to collect the data, to see what kind of permanent infrastructure needs to be built to make sure that we can reduce the amount of fatalities and severe injuries moving forward," Crowley said.

The traffic calming measures will be in place through the end of May. It's phase three of a coordinated project to attack reckless driving.

Milwaukee County is working with all of its cities and villages to create their own safety action plans.
