Milwaukee County begins vote canvassing process

CBS 58

MILWAUKEE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Now that every ballot in the 2024 election has been cast, Milwaukee County election officials started making the results official.

It's a process known as canvassing.

Over the next couple of weeks, vote totals will be complied and checked across the state.

That process is underway. In an effort to make sure what they hand into the state is an accurate representation of the country's electorate.

"We just basically check as much as we can to make sure everything balances. We're just a double check. This is a really important part of the election. It goes towards the narrative that elections are security in Milwaukee County and Wisconsin. we're a part of that process," said Michelle Hawley, elections director with Milwaukee County.

The canvassing process ends in about a month, when the Wisconsin Election Commission will certify the results from each county to make the vote official.
