MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- César Chávez Day was observed Monday, March 31, honoring the labor leader and civil rights advocate who championed the rights of farmworkers and fought for social justice across the United States.
Chávez, born in 1927, is remembered for his advocacy that led to safer working conditions and higher wages for agricultural laborers. His values of nonviolence, sacrifice, and community service continue to influence activism today.
A virtual celebration recognizing his legacy is scheduled for Sunday, April 13. The Marcus Performing Arts Center will host the 7th annual event, featuring youth who interpret Chávez’s words through essays and poetry. This year’s theme is "A Preference to Help the Most Needy."
The livestream will include an awards ceremony and speeches and will be emceed by me alongside fellow Telemundo Wisconsin anchor Rodaris Richardson.
