MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A fire bell rang at Milwaukee's downtown fire department headquarters Wednesday, Oct. 6.
It was part of a service paying tribute to the firefighters who lost their lives over the years in service to the city.
"We have to do our part to honor these folks," said MFD Chief Aaron Lipski. "And the best way we can honor these folks that gave their lives is to do everything in our collective power to prevent another loss."
Mayor Tom Barrett also paid tribute to the courage of Milwaukee's firefighters.
One-hundred-forty-three names are on the fallen firefighters list, which dates back to the 1870s.
