Milwaukee issues advisory on high fire danger due to dry conditions
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The City of Milwaukee has issued an advisory about the risk of burning fires as gusty winds and dry vegetation have increased fire danger across Wisconsin. According to the Tuesday, Oct. 29 advisory, a lack of precipitation in recent weeks has led to moderate to severe drought levels statewide.
The Milwaukee Fire Department recommended avoiding outdoor burning until conditions improve. Burn permits for debris burning are currently suspended in some counties.
Residents are urged to use approved containers for open burning and to keep fire extinguishing equipment readily available.
The city provides two drop-off sites for yard waste disposal instead of burning. The south drop-off location is at 3879 W. Lincoln Ave. and the north drop-off location is 6660 N. Industrial Rd.
Also noted in the advisory is that fireworks are illegal in Milwaukee and pose a fire risk. Cigarette butts should be properly disposed of to prevent grass fires.
