Milwaukee kids take first flights in event honoring slain rapper OG Tweezy
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — Dozens of Milwaukee children experienced their first flight Saturday afternoon during an event honoring Antwan Hogans, a local rapper known as OG Tweezy who was shot and killed last summer.
Hogans was known for giving back to the community, and now his son, Juan Hogans, is continuing that legacy.
About 80 children gathered at Timmerman Airport, where they received free backpacks and school supplies before boarding small planes for discovery flights.
Juan Hogans piloted the flights, giving many of the children their first experience in the air.
Hogans said he hopes the event not only helps prepare children for the upcoming school year but also inspires them to consider careers in aviation.
"He would always say it's better to give than to receive and I see now, it feels good," Hogans said. "It feels good to give better than to receive, and just giving these kids the lightbulb and inspiring them feels great."
Hogans said he plans to make the summer event an annual tradition. Saturday marked the second year it has been held.
He also plans to host another backpack giveaway Monday.
