Milwaukee LGBT Community Center relocates to Walker's Point
Milwaukee LGBT Community Center MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – The Milwaukee LGBT Community Center is relocating from 315 W. Court St. to 161 S. 1st St., returning to the Walker's Point neighborhood where it first opened in 1998, according to a Monday, Feb. 9 announcement.
The move aims to bring services closer to neighborhoods and transit routes most used by program participants, according to the center.
"By returning to Walker's Point, we honor our roots while positioning the Center for growth and innovation," Executive Director Ritchie T. Martin Jr. said in the Monday announcement.
The relocation will reduce occupancy costs over the next decade, allowing the center to invest more in programming and sustainability. The center has launched a special relocation campaign to fund the immediate costs of moving while preserving programs.
The center is also strengthening its clinical capacity, including Comprehensive Community Services and Medicare support, according to the announcement. The center serves more than 1,000 visitors annually through programs including Project Q, which provides youth support services, as well as aging and disabilities programs.
