Milwaukee man charged in shooting that left 2 dead near 38th and Nash

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A 27-year-old Milwaukee man is facing charges in connection with a shooting that left two people dead. 

The shooting occurred Dec. 23. Police say two victims, identified as 36-year-old Rodney Walls and 24-year-old Deontay Long, were shot inside a vehicle near 38th and Nash. 

According to a criminal complaint, Long was in the driver's seat and Walls in the front passenger seat when they were both shot. The accused shooter has been identified by authorities as Valentin Santana. 

Investigators believe Santana was in the backseat when he shot both Long and Walls. 

Long then tried to flee the vehicle before falling to the ground from is injuries. The vehicle ended up striking a pole. 

Valentin reportedly fled the scene, and authorities arrested him after a high-speed pursuit that ended in another crash on I-94 near N. 16th Street.

Valentin Santana is accused of the following: 

  • First-degree reckless homicide, use of a dangerous weapon (two counts) 
  • Possession of a firearm by a felon
  • First-degree recklessly endangering safety 
  • Operating a motor vehicle to flee or in an attempt to elude an officer
