Milwaukee man sentenced to 8 years in crash that killed 38-year-old woman

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A Milwaukee man was sentenced Friday, July 14, in the death of a 38-year-old woman.

Donzell Payne was sentenced to eight years in prison followed by four years of extended supervision after being found guilty of homicide by vehicle -- use of a controlled substance.

Authorities say Stephanie Kruse was riding her bike when Payne struck her while speeding back in October 2022.

A criminal complaint says Payne admitted to driving without a valid license and to smoking marijuana earlier in the day.

The report said at the time of the incident, he couldn't maintain his balance, had red, glassy eyes and couldn't recall what had happened.
