MILWAUKEE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Young Republican National Federation has officially selected Milwaukee as its host city for the 2027 National Convention.

In a news release, officials say they made the announcement Saturday following a competitive bidding process.

“Once again, Wisconsin will be in the national spotlight as Young Republicans from across the country gather in Milwaukee to organize, energize, and help elect Republicans up and down the ballot,” said Kyle Schroeder, Chairman of the Wisconsin Young Republicans. “We’re proud of the work Wisconsin YRs have done and excited to showcase everything our state and city have to offer.”

The convention is expected to draw more than 1,200 Young Republicans to Milwaukee in August 2027 and generate close to $1 million in economic activity to the area.

Jake Williams, Chair of the Young Democrats of Wisconsin, shared the following statement in response to this announcement:

“During the RNC last year in Milwaukee we saw empty bars, restaurants, and businesses across the city, with regular patrons driven away by the constant insults and attacks the GOP makes against this city. They insult Milwaukee and its residents; they try to steal Milwaukee’s funding; and then they show up during election season only to take advantage of the city and then leave it hurting — it’s the same playbook just a different year.”
