Milwaukee officer injured in hit-and-run crash near 35th and Meinecke

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee police are investigating a crash that left a 41-year-old officer with serious injuries.

According to the Milwaukee PD, the crash occurred as the officer's squad car traveled southbound on N. 35th St., crossing W. Meinecke Ave. The other vehicle, traveling eastbound on Meinecke at a reported high rate of speed, allegedly disregarded a stop sign and collided with the squad car.

The crash happened early Tuesday, Sept. 26 at around 1:25 a.m.

The force of the collision caused the squad car to spin around and face northward in the northbound lane. Meanwhile, the other vehicle ended up against a tree on the south side of Meinecke.

Officials report that its occupants fled the scene on foot.

The injured officer was transported to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
