Milwaukee Pets Alive seeks donations after COVID-19 postpones fundraising event

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee Pets Alive, an all-volunteer-run nonprofit organization, is looking for a little extra help amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The group rescues special needs animals that are typically passed over by other shelters, and many of those animals have increased medical needs.

MPA Director Lisa Grabowski says the nonprofit had been counting on funds from an upcoming fundraiser to help pay for medication, food and veterinary appointments. But due to current COVID-19 restrictions, the event's been postponed until further notice.

Now she's asking the community for help.

In honor of MPA's eighth birthday, the organization is asking 1,000 people to each donate $8.

"So many of you would have been going to concerts, other events, dining at restaurants, shopping, and other leisure activities this weekend...but then plans changed for everyone," Grabowski said in a Facebook post. "I ask that you would consider donating just $8 of what you would have spent on those fun things (or more if you are so gracious and able) to help."
