Sirens, gunshots and explosions heard in Fredonia; suspect taken into custody after a near 38-hour standoff
UPDATE, 5/10/25, 11:45 a.m. - The Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office say they took the suspect into custody at around 10:50 a.m. and there is no longer a threat to the public.
The suspect was transported to a local hospital for minor injuries and a mental health evaluation.
Officials say the situation involved a suspect who was actively shooting fully automatic rifles from his home and made numerous threats to kill law enforcement officers.
All roads in the Fox Glen neighborhood have now been reopened and residents can return to their homes.
Saturday afternoon, our team captured these photos of what appears to be the house the suspect barricaded themselves in.
Neighbors say they endured sleepless nights and anxious days awaiting a resolution.
“You get kind of caged in," said neighbor, Marshal Frisque. "You feel like you’re just overwhelmed and exhausted. You’re waiting for it to come to an end, but you’re praying for a peaceful outcome.”
Those who live in the area say they heard sirens, gunshots and shouting.
"Scary, it was really scary,” said neighbor, Kerie Freeman.
Neighbors stopping by to see the aftermath that shows just how intense the tactical situation was.
"To see that now and what had to happen, it’s unbelievable," said neighbor Matt Zavada.
FREDONIA, Wis. (CBS 58): Update, 5/10/25 -- The Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office says as of 6:20 a.m. the subject continues to threaten to kill officers if they enter his home.
Officials said tactical resources and negotiations to de-escalate the situation with the suspect continued through the night on Friday and were unsuccessful.
The Sheriff's office continues to urge residents to stay away from the area or remain in your homes.
FREDONIA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Over the course of several hours, police have been attempting to de-escalate a situation involving an armed individual residing in a home in the Fox Glen Road neighborhood. Our team at the scene heard multiple gunshots and bangs around 9 p.m.
The Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office stated in Friday evening, May 9 update the suspect remains uncooperative and has made explicit threats. He told police "He'd go full auto" and kill anyone who approached. The suspect is heavily armed and has been observed aiming a rifle at law enforcement, according to officials.

OZAUKEE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A tactical situation involving an "extremely dangerous" and "heavily armed" suspect is underway in the Village of Fredonia Friday, May 9.
The Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office says all residents in the Fox Glen Road neighborhood are asked to remain in their basements until the threat has been controlled.
Fox Glen, Pheasant Lane and Partridge Lane have been closed until further notice. Those who live on Edmaro may leave the area traveling southbound on Edmaro, but use "extreme caution."
St. John's Church and day care will be closed for the day due to the proximity to the incident.
Law enforcement is asking all residents in the area to stay in their homes or officers will escort you out of the area.
The sheriff's office says electrical power was temporarily turned off in the Fox Glen neighborhood but has since been restored.
Neighbors in the area tell CBS 58 News they’ve heard gunshots and sirens since midnight.
“A couple hours ago the road was still blocked, and I heard gunshots. And it’s like it’s not something you ever think you’re gonna have to experience, especially out here, so it feels unreal,” said Ashley Fullerton.
Residents say it's been a terrifying experience, saying they feel uneasy and want to see a resolution.
“Was very scary because we have two young kids as well,” said neighbor Jeremy Fullerton. “They had a shelter in place, so we wanted to take that into effect and make sure the kids are safe, but yeah, it’s scary for being such a quiet neighborhood. It’s very heartbreaking."
Neighbors also tell CBS 58 News they have had issues with the home involved in the tactical situation before, saying they’ve heard random gunshots from there.
