MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Local leaders say some homeowners are leaving money on the table by not taking advantage of clean energy programs available right now.
Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson, County Executive David Crowley, and former Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes spoke in Milwaukee today about those opportunities, stemming from the energy efficiency programs through the Inflation Reduction Act.
They say homeowners can save thousands on energy efficiency upgrades and their individual utility bills.
"I can really tell the different in my heating bill so far, people really need to apply and benefit from these programs," said Danny Miller, Milwaukee Homeowner and Programs Beneficiary.
"Right now, families can take advantage of tax credits to make it affordable and easier to upgrade things like doors, windows, heating systems and more," said Kevin Kane, Chief Economist, Green Homeowners United.
For example, families who install an efficient heat pump heating system could be eligible for a $2,000 tax credit, a $500 tax credit for new exterior doors, and $600 for triple pane windows.
