State lawmaker faces charges after allegedly threatening to leak information about fellow lawmaker
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A Milwaukee state lawmaker is facing charges after an alleged dispute at the capitol.
State Representative Slyvia Ortiz-Velez is facing a disorderly conduct charge after threatening to leak information about another lawmaker to the press.
According to prosecutors, she was mad after being excluded from a resolution for Latin American veterans.
The report says Ortiz-Velez contacted several media outlets, stating that she had been purposely kept from participating, which escalated the situation.
Other witnesses say Ortiz-Velez had threatened to leak more personal information, which investigators say crossed the line for a political disagreement.
Last August, she was barred from the statehouse for several days after a report she threatened a colleague with an automatic weapon.
If convicted, Ortiz-Velez faces fines and up to 90 days in prison.
She is due in court March 6th.
